The presentation of the Christ-child in the temple by Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640) is used as a model for our painting. Rubens' work inspired various artists, a.o. Frans Ykens, Paulus Piontius and Abraham Willemsens. (link, link, & link)

Furthermore, The adoration of the shepherds is the mirror painting of an eponymous work by Peter Paul Rubens. The original painting is since 1803 part of the collection of the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Marseille and was previously part of the collection of the Sint-Janskerk in Mechelen, where the painting was taken by the French government and transferred to the Louvre in Paris. Condition: (UV-checked) The adoration

- The painting in very good and hangable condition, with the usual minor wear on the borders due to the framing.

- The UV-light shows foremost the typical colour of the varnish. Central bottom difference in varnish layer.

- Negligible wear and traces of use.
