Ecole hollandaise, Johannes Mijtens (1614-1670) et/ou entourage: Portrait d'un jeune homme comme chasseur, huile sur toile, 17ème siècle

481

Work: 95,5 x 68 cm

Frame: 113 x 85,9 cm

The portrayal of the young man fits perfectly into Mijttens' oeuvre, which consistently reproduced ladies and gentlemen of good origin in this way, as for example can be seen in the portrait of Wolphart van Brederode (link). Also the theme of the hunt was not strange to Mijttens and his surroundings (compare for example with a portrait of most probably Mary of Nassau, link).

The reverse with an old auction label.

Provenance: Private collection, Belgium, Ghent.

Condition: (UV-checked)

- The painting in good and without doubt in hangable condition.

- Relined (partly because of some damage on the right side of the arm).

- Minor overpaint (especially in the middle zone: small area under the quiver, small area immediately to the right of the arm).

- The usual and minor damage to the borders due to the framing and some negligible flaking paint.
