Dimensions:

Work: 113 x 80,5 cm

Frame: 130 x 100 cm

Compare:

The frame with an attribution to Johannes Lingelbach (1622-1674). A strong parallel can be drawn with a work by Jan Weenix (1641-1719), namely 'The prodigal son feasting with the courtesans in the midst of classical ruins, in the distance a Mediterranean harbor'. The upper right-hand corner of the work, including a sculpture representing the brother murder, shows a very similar setting (link).

Condition: (UV-checked)

The painting needs some cleaning. Minor damage to the borders due to the framing. Minor flaking of the paint, especially in the left bottom corner. Relined. A rather faint network of craquelures. Some old restorations and some retouches (rather little things here and there in the painting). A restoration on the central part of the sculpture (with retouches).
