At first sight, the work seems to fit into the oeuvre of the Antwerp baroque painter Theodoor Van Loon (1581/82-1667). However, the way of painting suggests a rather French hand.

- The painting in general in good and hangable condition.

- Relined.

- Uv light shows foremost the typical colour of the varnish, with overpaint: background left, accents in the hair and beard, the centre with some overpaint (because of a tear, see also: relined), palm of the hand and some smaller retouches. Restored lacunes.
