The 'Hotel du Kursaal' was the first hotel on the beach. The authorisation was giving in 1874. Before 1877, it was a wooden shed on stilts where for example Louis Artan stayed to paint his seascapes. The hotel was run by 'Siessen Boels' and his wife. During the great February storm of 1877, the hotel (known locally as the 'Brakke') was destroyed and subsequently rebuilt in two parts. Only in 1906 a majestic new stone building was erected on the site (link). The work offered here shows the initial situation particularly nicely.
