The painting is a copy after a work of Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640). The original can be seen in the Royal Museum of Fine Arts, Antwerp, inv. 313 (link). 

The design (with left and right a fight against death and sin) was also available in the Netherlands through an engraving by Paulus Pontius, which is kept in the collection of the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, object number: RP-P-OB-70.051 (link). 

The image soon became very popular and, for example, some copies can be found in the collection of the Ghent City Museum, STAM, object numbers: 00665 and 00766 (link).
