Our work is a copy of a painting by Peter Paul Rubens, which is since 1927 in The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, Sarasota (Florida), inv. nr. SN18 (link). The subject of the flight of Lot was particularly popular and the painting often served as a source of inspiration (for a version by e.g. Jacob Jordaens, see: link). In 1620 the famous engraver Lucas Vorsterman turned this representation into a print (link). Numerous new versions of the work quickly appeared, including this version.
