The mark of the artisan workshop is a 'Tu Yi Sheng' (徐義生) mark, a Shanghai-based workshop. Sing Fat (盛發), the retailer of the set, operated in both Canton and Shanghai in the early 20th C.

The decoration shows a dragon chasing the flaming pearl, a recurrent motif in Chinese art, with the pearl representing the attainment of wisdom, power or immortality.
