The immortal Gama is always accompanied by one or more toads and he can also morph into one. The Japanese legend of Gama Sennin (蝦蟇仙人 "Toad Immortal") is based upon Liu Hai, a fabled Chinese 10th C. alchemist who learned the secret of immortality from Chan Chu ("The Three-legged Money Toad").
