Otto Marseus Van Schrieck (1619-1678): Een paar bosstillevens met vlinders en insecten, olie op paneel

Work: 28 x 23 cm
Frame: 41 x 35 cm

With a certificate of authenticity by Dr. Klaus Ertz, dated 13 September 2020. He states that the two paintings were created in the 1650s.

The painter is considered as the inventor of a forest still life. He had a special preference for colourful butterflies, insects and reptiles, which he partly kept in terraria himself. The search for these animals led to him being nicknamed 'Snuffelaer'. The artist travelled to Italy with Mattheus Withoos (1627-1703), where he got acquainted with Willem van Aelst (1627 - ca. 1683).
